This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of size and planting depth of pseudobulb on the growth and flowering in Bletilla striata. The smaller pseudobulbs than 6-7 §¯ long in pseudobulb circumference showed the poor growth of shoot and pseudobulb, and did not flower at all. When the pseudobulbs of 8-9 §¯ long were planted, the rate of flowering was low and flower number was few. The pseudobulbs of 10-11 §¯ long exhibited the better growth of shoot and pseudobulb, the higher flowering rate (80%), and the more flower than the other treatments. Pseudobulbs planted into 0 §¯ or 15 §¯ deep showed the poor growth of shoot, pseudobulb, and flower. However, when pseudobulbs were planted into 10 §¯ deep, the growth of shoot and pseudobulb was better and rate of flowering (70%) and flower number increased.
